Senior Software Developer GIS/Analytics

 

Location: Lethbridge, AB (remote locations also considered)

 

With direction and guidance from the Geospatial Software Development Manager the Senior Software Developer will be responsible for building and maintaining our data analytics applications.  These solutions leverage GIS/RS, Big Data, and Machine Learning (ML) tools within our Decision Agriculture Platform.  Through these vector and raster data pipelines you will provide valuable information to our clients through map and graphic visualizations, statistics, and in the end, actionable insights.

 

What you'll be doing:

  • Design and develop software libraries for performing customized analytics over a variety of sources, including vector-based equipment data, weather data, soil data, and earth observation imagery.
  • Automation of geoprocessing functions such as spatial interpolation and cluster analysis.
  • Integrate proprietary analytics into our web platform from complimentary teams such as remote sensing and agronomy.
  • Testing, debug, and documentation of new and existing code.
  • Participate in daily planning activities.
  • Mentor junior employee's activities and help with code review.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • BSc, MSc, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, GIS, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of software development experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Python development.
  • Programming experience with geospatial libraries, such as GDAL
  • Able to work under minimal supervision and apply sound judgment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cooperative skills essential for success.
  • Good verbal and technical writing skills.

What would be great:

  • Programming experience with libraries such as numpy, scipy, and pandas considered a strong asset.
  • Some knowledge of the Django Web Framework.
  • Background in mathematics or statistics considered a strong asset.
  • Agricultural knowledge an asset.
