Software Release Manager


Location: Lethbridge, AB/Calgary, AB/Winnipeg, MB 


Reporting to the Business Process Manager, the Project Manager will manage planning, organization and delivery of Farmers Edge software projects. The role requires excellent communication skills and working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle. In general, the Project Manager has the responsibility for the successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of a project.


What you'll be doing:

  • Track project status in the central repositories (GitHub) throughout development, and report and coordinate any issues;
  • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to track dependencies across related projects;
  • Assist with deriving the potential risk rating, including likelihood and assessment of field impact;
  • Prepare release builds for iOS and Android mobile apps and desktop browser based apps;
  • Coordinate deploys to Development, QA and Production environments (using tools such as TestFlight, inTune, Apple Store, Google Play);
  • Create and Maintain a Deployment Schedule of upcoming Releases - including implementation date(s) and approximate time(s) to help determine any conflicts with business events or with other programs/projects;
  • Assist in Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Business Go/No-Go reviews;
  • Create and track release branches in GitHub & work with engineers to understand impacts of branch and code merges;
  • Assist with implementing automation to deploy workflows (with DevOps and QA);
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience;
  • Previous release management and/or related experience;
  • Solid understanding of project management principles;
  • Advanced understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle & models;
  • Proficient with Version control tools, e.g. GitHub;
  • Solid understanding of continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines;
  • Experience with Agile Scrum methodologies;
  • Working knowledge of Atlassian tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence);
  • Programming experience very helpful/desired;
  • Comfortable using Windows, Mac, Linux Operating systems;
