Backend Software Architect

Location: Lethbridge, AB preferred. Remote opportunity may be considered.

The Software Architecture team is growing to support the development of new and existing services. This team is responsible for guiding the direction of new services that map to new business requirements, recommending and/or implementing changes to existing services to ensure reliability and scalability as our user-base grows, and advancing the software stack we use today by introducing new technologies through POCs.

As a Backend Software Architect, you will join this cross-functional team to help meet these objectives. We're looking for experienced Developers and Software Architects to join this cross-functional team. Successful applicants will be comfortable making decisions and recommendations in many areas of software development, including backend and frontend web development, security, DevOps, data science and big data analytics.

 

What you'll be doing:

  • Working with a team of experienced software architects
  • Collaborating with other existing internal teams
  • Researching new tools and technologies to satisfy a requirement
  • Evaluating risks through proof-of-concept (POC) projects
  • Preparing technical documents
  • Integrating technologies and workflows from POC into production environment
  • Participating in daily planning activities such as Scrum meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Foundational requirements:

  • 7+ years of Software Development
  • 1+ year of Software Architecture
  • Agile / Scrum / SDLC methodologies

Expertise in one of more of the following areas:

  • API and microservice design and implementation (Django, Node.js, GraphQL)
  • Data modeling
  • Development experience with SaaS in Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud
  • Deployment experience in cloud environments
  • Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • API management platforms
  • Security (IAM, Active Directory, Keycloak)
  • Architecture patterns (REST, SOAP, websockets)
  • Big Data technologies (Hadoop, HDFS, MapReduce, Spark, Accumulo, Hbase, Kafka, Elasticsearch)
  • Geospatial data stores like Geomesa, Geowave, PostGIS
