Remote Sensing Manager

 

Location: Lethbridge, AB  - Remote location may be considered.        

 

Reporting to the Head of Analytics, the Remote Sensing Manager will lead a highly skilled team responsible for overseeing the quality of our industry-leading agricultural imagery store, and development of field-scale analysis.  Using multi-spectral, hyperspectral, and radar imagery your task will be to advance the delivery of our satellite and air-borne products within our precision agriculture platform.  This individual must be driven and is expected to have a good understanding of geospatial analysis, and be familiar with agricultural/environmental applications of remote sensing.      

Duties may include the following:

Core duties:

  • Coordinate a team of remote sensing technicians and scientists;
  • Subject matter expert for earth observation datasets, image processing, and analytics;
  • Guide team through requirements gathering, design, prototyping, and documentation;
  • Planning for in-field research activities to support model development and validation;
  • Cross-functional meetings with other managers, Product representatives, Agronomy R & D, and other teams;
  • Resource planning and scheduling;
  • Assess and provide training opportunities to grow the team where new skills are needed: software, hardware, products, and technologies/methodologies;
  • Recruitment support (reviewing applications, attending interviews), and assisting with performance evaluations;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

The ideal candidate would be strong in the following areas:

  • Sc. or M.Sc. in physical or biological science relevant to earth observation using remote sensing;
  • 3+ years working as a Remote Sensing Analyst;
  • Experience using multi-spectral, hyperspectral, and radar datasets;
  • Some knowledge of software development to support customization and automation (preference for Python, R, IDL);
  • 2+ years functioning as a team manager;
  • Basic understanding of Precision Agriculture;
  • Working knowledge of agile methodologies.

  • Comfortable working in both a cooperative environment and be willing to work independently on assigned tasks;
  • Creative, motivated, resourceful and passionate about what they do;
  • Orientated toward team success;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Training will be provided in the initial stages, but some independent learning will be expected.
